Cultural Ephesus

Éfeso fue fundada por Lisimaquo, uno de los sucesores de Alejandro Magno, en el año 300 a.C. Éfeso, que vivió su época más gloriosa en los periodos helenístico y romano, contaba con 200.000 habitantes y era la mayor ciudad portuaria y capital de la provincia de Asia. Éfeso jugó un papel crucial en los campos de la civilización, la ciencia, la cultura y el arte a través de su historia desde el 4000 a.C. Las ruinas antiguas en cuatro regiones -Éfeso, la colina de Ayasuluk, Artemisión y Selçuk- son visitadas por casi tres millones de turistas cada año. Como primera ciudad de mármol, los edificios más importantes de Éfeso son la Biblioteca Celcius, el Ágora, las Casas de la Terraza y el Teatro de Éfeso, con capacidad para 25.000 visitantes.

Artemission

One of the Seven Wonders of the World, Artemis Temple is the first marble-made temple of the ancient world. Its history goes back to 7. Century BC. Temple was dedicated to Ancient Goddess Artemis and constructed using bronze sculptures of famous sculptors Pheidias, Polycleitus, Kresilas ve Phradmon under the Cretan architect Chersiphron at the expense of Croesus of Lydia.

Excavations of Artemis Temple began by Archeologist John Turtle Wood in 1863 with the contributions of British Museum After six years of searching, the site of the temple was discovered in 1869.

Selcuk Isa Bey Mosque

Se encuentra entre el templo de Artemisa y la iglesia de San Juan. Fue mandado construir por Aydınoğlu İsa Bey. Ocupa un lugar importante en la historia del arte turco. Esta mezquita es una de las obras más antiguas y elaboradas del periodo de los Beyliks de Anatolia en la arquitectura turca. También se utilizó como caravasar en el siglo XIX.

Şirince Village

With nearly 1800 houses at the beginning of 19 th century ,Şirince village was a Greek town specialized in fig and grape production. It was a mountain village whose Greek population were evacuated and exchanged with the Turkish Tobacco workers in Greece in 1923. Today, with ıts interesting architecture and natural life attracts the attention of tourists.
